Passion, Dedication, and 250 Cats

Carvoeiro Cat Charity is not just a shelter—it is a
remarkable network of 21 houses, home to around 250 cats (a number that changes almost daily), and the driving force behind it all: one extraordinary woman.

Over 25 years ago, Corinna, originally from Germany, arrived
in the Algarve with just one cat. Today, she runs a large-scale rescue operation that cares for hundreds of cats. Despite the size of the organisation, every single cat is known to her personally. Each one has a name, is registered, and has been neutered or spayed.

Cats with special needs receive tailored care, ensuring that every animal gets the attention and treatment it requires.

Of course, this is not a one-woman effort. A dedicated team
of volunteers supports the daily work of the charity. They feed the cats, clean the cat houses, and spend time socialising and comforting them. Their commitment ensures that the cats are not only cared for physically, but also receive the affection they need.

One of the 21 houses functions as a care station—the charity’s own small animal hospital—where sick or injured cats can recover
safely. Corinna also works closely with the BSA (a feline blood donor bank), providing vital support for animals in need of transfusion. So far they have saved over 400 cats’ lives. Beyond the main shelter, there are also external feeding stations where feral cats can eat and drink in a safe environment

It is difficult to capture the full scope of what Carvoeiro
Cat Charity does. What is clear, however, is the passion that drives it. Corinna and her team are deeply committed to improving the lives of cats, offering them not just shelter, but care, dignity, and a second chance.

Carvoeiro Cat Charity is entirely volunteer-run, and every donation goes directly to food, veterinary care and daily welfare. By donating, adopting, volunteering or sharing their story, you help give cats a happy life. 🐾
