Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday morning, as the sun warms the courts, familiar sounds fill the air at LAGOA Pickleball Algarve: laughter, the pop of a plastic ball, and sneakers squeaking at the kitchen line.
What began as a few friends trying a new sport has grown into a close-knit community united by routine, fun, and friendship. The group formed almost by accident. Curious players invited others “just to try it,” and soon regular faces filled the courts. Over time, they learned each other’s strengths, favorite shots, and quirks.
Former tennis players mix easily with complete beginners, proving pickleball’s unique ability to level the playing field. Skill matters, but encouragement matters more. Competition exists, but it’s friendly. Games are played hard, yet the atmosphere stays light. Missed shots are laughed off, great rallies are celebrated, and partners rotate to keep things fair and social.
New players are always welcomed and supported, with an unspoken rule that no one leaves without a smile. Beyond the courts, friendships deepen. Post-game coffee or a beer at the bar, group chats, and shared life updates have become just as important as the matches themselves. Pickleball provides physical benefits—better fitness, balance, and energy— but its greatest impact is social: a reliable, in-person in-person community built around joy rather than obligation.

The courts have been kindly sponsored and provided to the club free of charge by the local council https://www.cm-lagoa.pt/
Members periodically donate funds to maintain the nets and other equipment.
If you don't know how to play, some members are now trained coaches - simply put a message on the court booking via Playtime Scheduler for help.
Rackets are available to hire from the cafe next door @ 2 Euros with a ball.
