Carvoeiro Cat Charity

Carvoeiro Cat Charity is a quiet lifeline for cats in need in the Algarve

Behind the region’s sunny streets and relaxed coastal charm lies a harsher reality of abandoned pets, unsterilised colonies, illness and vulnerable kittens. This is where the charity steps in, turning compassion into practical, hands-on action every day.

Their mission is simple and heartfelt: rescue cats at risk, rehome those who can be adopted, and provide lifelong care for those who cannot. Around 250 cats live in the shelter, thoughtfully housed according to individual needs—some in social groups, others in calmer, private spaces—ensuring safety and comfort for every cat.

Beyond the shelter, the charity supports local cat colonies with food, medical care and vital sterilisation programmes to reduce suffering and prevent future litters.

Carvoeiro Cat Charity is entirely volunteer-run, and every donation goes directly to food, veterinary care and daily welfare. By donating, adopting, volunteering or sharing their story, you help give cats a second chance. 🐾
